So, tomorrow is The Demo I have been looking forward to for MONTHS. Barbie Cares! I'm not Barbie, but I couldn't be more excited about it anyway! I've never been involved with a character promotion, and it is kinda weird to be referred to as a "handler" to be honest. It just doesn't sound right!
Do any of you have experience in doing a character demo?
Also, can I take a minute to complain about this agency? They never answer their emails! What if I had a serious issue? I know this is a huge event, but come on, I had 3 phone calls on a particular day to confirm me, all from different people, but then they do not answer their emails? This is making me insane!

So I got audited this weekend
I did this one demo this weekend, and an AUDITOR came!
This was my first audit. OMG. She took pictures of me talking to customers. And asked me weird questions.
Have you all ever been audited?

I’m a MICA photography student and I’m working on a personal project that involves movement and the body. But as a start off point, I wish to make intense portraits of individuals, mimicking film stills.
In addition to this, I will be working on a fashion portfolio as well.
If you wish to help me with my project by posing for me, please contact me immediately with an introduction of yourself and a picture through email or text:
firstname.lastname@example.org (I check my account very often and it is the fastest way to get to me)
I’m very excited about this project and I hope to hear from you very soon.
Here’s a link to my portfolio:
Thanks very much!

This has never happened to me before
So, Saturday I was scheduled to do a demo for Cake brand craft kits for children. I made some sample crafts with the equipment they sent me, and went to the store like normal. I sign in to the vendor log and head off to find the items so I know their price and location.
I have some trouble finding them, so I ask the craft department clerk, and she gets confused that I need stuff to decorate cakes with, and I have to explain "Cake" is the brand name and they are craft kits for kids. She shows me the kids aisle. No Cake kits. There was an almost identical product of a different brand, but no Cake. As in, the store doesn't even CARRY it.
So I call my booker and he tells me "This promo is having issues everywhere. Just get a manager's signature that they don't carry it to prove you were there and we will get you paid for your trouble." Ok, no problem, this had never happened to me before, but it seemed totally simple, right? So I find a manager and explain the situation, and she's like "so... why do I need to sign it if you aren't doing it?"
Does WalMart only employ people with 5 or fewer brain cells?
I couldn't believe I had to fight with this lady for her stupid signature!
Has this ever happened to you guys? I could handle being sent home, but I seriously have come to realize NOBODY at WalMart ever has any idea what is going on...

Companies I Like and Dislike
I like working with:
Front Row frontrowepm.com They have given me lots of work and are efficient
Talent Squad talentsquad.com They are quick and you get everything with plenty of time to review it
Encore encorenationwide.com They pay all of the models every 2 weeks. No question on when you will get paid. Available work is consistent, and all the training materials are available online
I have mixed feelings about:
BMT myspace.com/bmtpromo the pay is good, and they offer to reimburse (if you prefer this or not is a personal thing) instead of you writing off tablecloths and card tables as business expenses, but it took a long time for my check to be sent out
Individual Companies: like you see on craigslist for you to go pass out flyers at a local event or something similar. A lot of these people are flakes. But I have also had some good experiences
I do not like:
TEI. They are horrible and unprofessional. Avoid working with them.
Hope this helps you
Also, a question to the community. Who all keeps the leftover samples? What do you do with them?
